Frequently asked questions
How does the temporary badge work?
Schmoozle lets you build a temporary badge for networking events right inside your web browser. You enter your name, headline, bio, discussion topics, and contact links in the badge maker above, and everything is saved immediately onto your device.
When you are at an event, you simply hold up your phone. The front face displays your crisp editorial profile, and the back face provides an offline-scannable QR code that anyone can point their camera at to view your profile or save your contact info.
Do I need an account or the app?
Zero accounts, zero passwords, and zero app downloads required. The temporary badge is built for immediate use at your next meetup, hackathon, or conference.
It runs entirely inside standard mobile web browsers (Safari on iOS, Chrome on Android, etc.). You don't need to install anything, sign up or verify an email address.
How do people scan my badge?
Anyone with any modern smartphone can scan your badge directly using their regular built-in camera app—they do not need Schmoozle installed.
Depending on what you select in the badge maker, scanning your badge can:
- Add your contact card (vCard): Directly prompts them to add your contact card with your phone number, email, website, and title straight into their phone's native address book.
- Open your profile or links: Immediately navigate to your configured web profile (LinkedIn, GitHub, or X profile) so they can connect right away.
How do I show my badge at an event?
Once you fill in your details, click Done — Show my Profile below the form. This opens your full mobile profile view, designed to look stunning on your phone screen.
Tapping Flip to Badge turns your card over to display the large, high-contrast QR code alongside your headline and discussion topics so new acquaintances can scan it from across the table.
Where is my information stored?
Exclusively on your device. Your badge details, avatar picture, and chosen topics live in your browser's private local storage.
We never upload your temporary badge to our servers, and we never track or sell your information. No third-party ad pixels or tracking cookies are included. If you ever want to remove your badge, clearing your badge via the menu or clicking "Clear Form & Erase Data" in the form above deletes it completely and irreversibly.
Does it work without internet or Wi-Fi?
Yes, it is designed for crowded event venues. Convention centers and basement meetups often suffer from weak cellular service and congested event Wi-Fi.
Because your badge and the QR code generator run completely on-device in your browser's memory, your badge and scannable code remain fully functional even in airplane mode with no internet connection.
Can I add a photo and change my details?
Yes. You can tap the avatar frame in the badge maker to pick any photo from your phone’s camera roll or snap a fresh photo. Your photo is processed and stored locally on your device.
If you prefer not to upload a photo, your badge automatically generates a clean monogram with your initials. You can come back and edit your headline, bio, discussion topics, or links at any time—all changes update in real time.
How is this different from the native Schmoozle app?
The temporary badge is a convenient, frictionless companion for immediate networking without any commitment.
The native Schmoozle iPhone app is a complete event networking system. It adds mutual scanning (where both people get each other’s contact details in one tap), automatic grouping of contacts by event, private conversation notes, iCloud Keychain sync, and live contact updates whenever your connections change their roles or contact info.
