Schmoozle for iPhone

Privacy policy.

Schmoozle is for swapping details at events. This page explains what we store, who can see it, and how to remove it.

Your profile

Your profile is whatever you choose to put on it: your name, role, organization, location, bio and availability, the topics you are happy to discuss, your email, phone, website and social links, your work, experience and skills, and your photos.

We store your profile on our server once you finish setting up the app, and update it each time you edit it. The people you meet can see everything on it, so leave out anything you would rather keep to yourself.

You do not need an account or a password. Your profile can be changed or deleted only from Schmoozle on your iPhone, or on another iPhone that shares your iCloud Keychain.

Your events, and the notes you write about the people you meet, stay on your iPhone. We never receive them.

Who can see it

People you meet with Schmoozle

Anyone whose badge you scan, or who scans yours, has your profile in their app and receives the changes you make later. Turning off your public page does not change this.

Anyone with your page's address

Your profile also has a public web page, so people can scan your badge with any phone camera, without the app. The page is at a private link, and also at your handle if you claim one. Anyone with either address can read it.

The page is on by default. You can turn it off in Options, under Public Page. This hides the page but keeps your profile on our server. To remove it completely, see Deleting your profile.

Each of your photos has its own long web address that cannot be guessed. Anyone who already has that address can still open the photo after you turn off your page.

If you claim a handle, it stays reserved for you for 30 days from when you claim it, even if you turn off your page or delete your profile during that time.

Scanning

When you scan someone's badge, you are each added to the other's app, and Schmoozle records when the scan happened. The other person sees in their app that you scanned them, which is why your profile must be on our server before you can scan.

Notifications

We use notifications to update your app when someone you met changes their profile, and to tell you when someone scans your badge. Profile updates arrive silently. Scan alerts appear only if you allow them, and name the person who scanned you.

To stop scan alerts, go to Options, then Badge & QR Code Settings, and turn off Notify me when scanned.

Beta sign-ups

If you sign up on the beta page, we keep your email address and the date you signed up, and use them only to invite you to the beta. Invitations are sent through Apple's TestFlight, so Apple receives your address in order to send them. We keep your address until you ask us to remove it.

Deleting your profile

Your profile stays on our server until you delete it. To delete it, open Options in the app and, under Your Data, choose Delete my profile from Schmoozle.

This removes your profile and photos from our server and takes down your public page. Anyone you met with Schmoozle keeps the last version of your profile their app received, but it no longer updates. Your profile remains on your iPhone, and you can upload it again from the same screen.

Deleting your profile does not remove:

  • the record of who you scanned and who scanned you, and when, which lets your app keep receiving updates from the people you met
  • your handle, until someone else claims it after its 30 days are up

To have these removed too, email us.

Deleting the app does not delete your profile from our server. Delete your profile in Options before you delete the app.

Sharing

We do not sell your data, show ads or track you, in the app or on this website. Your data is stored with our hosting provider, and Apple delivers notifications and beta invitations. No one else receives it.
